Join FDNNTV.com's Barbara Brooks and the Los Angeles County Fire Department for a look at how California's first responders prepared for one of the state's heaviest rainstorms ever. In a successful and historic joint effort by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Public Works Department, 1991 homes were evacuated in advance of the storm in anticipation of mudslides in areas affected by the Station Fire earlier this year. At a press conference Friday, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich announced that the break down of the evacuations were in the following communities with the following totals: Acton 51 homes, La Canada Flintridge 251 homes, La Crecenta 217 homes, Glendale, 348 homes, Tujunga 803 homes, Sierra Madre 321 homes. Most of those mandatory evacuation orders were lifted as of Friday. Thursday, Acting Governor Jerry Brown signed an authorization for emergency declaration for the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Francisco and Siskiyou. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger added San Bernardino County to that list Friday. During these four storms that hit Southern California, heavy rains prompted flash flood warnings to be issued for some areas while other areas were under a rare tornado warning from the National Weather Service. Hail, lightning strikes and snowfall as low as 2,000 feet was also widely reported. Author:Barbara Brooks - FDNNTV.com
