LACoFD Donates Equipment to Local Fire Academies
October 2011

LACoFD is donating over 100 surplus self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles and masks to local fire academies to ensure that the next generation of firefighters is fully trained to meet the stringent challenges of the profession.

On October 18, the Board of Supervisors approved LACoFD's donation to El Camino Community College Fire Academy and Rio Hondo Community College Fire Academy. Both schools expressed a need for training equipment, specifically SCBA and bottles, to help support their firefighting curriculum. Each will receive 50 SCBA masks and 30-minute bottles to train their students with equipment that is serviceable and reflective of current fire department standards.

This donation is at no cost to our Department or the County. This equipment became surplus in December 2010, when we transitioned from the Panther SCBA's with 30-minute bottles to the new Warrior SCBA's 45-minute bottles.
