Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Suncrest Apartments, 2200 Sunrise Ave (Eastern/Fremont) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 and found fire heavy flames coming out the front window of one apartment in the 1-story wood frame/stucco apartment building.

No one was home when firefighters arrived.  They forced entry into the apartment and put the fire out in less than five minutes.

The fire completely gutted the interior of the small apartment.  There was minor smoke in the apartment to the rear of the apartment with fire.  Damage was estimated at $25,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the possibility of careless smoking could not be ruled out.  Smoking material was found in the room where fire investigators believe the fire started.  The occupant told investigators she was smoking in that room prior to her leaving about a half hour earlier.

No one was injured during the incident.  The American Red Cross is assisting five adults and five children that live in the two apartments.
