March 17, 2011

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue investigators arrested and charged the owner of a downtown business that was damaged by fire in February with arson yesterday.  He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center and booked.

Fire investigators arrested Hans E. Aareskjold, 43, the owner of The Strip Sandwich Shop at 603 South Las Vegas Blvd., and charged him with one count of arson in the first degree.  Investigators allege he is responsible for the fire that started at 2:20 a.m. on Feb. 9, 2011, which damaged four businesses.  For more than a month, fire investigators conducted an extensive forensic investigation into the cause of the fire and concluded the fire was the result of arson.

The building, which sits on the corner of Bonneville Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, had four businesses in it at the time of the fire: The Strip Sandwich Shop, Bingo Bail Bonds, Rescue Bail Bonds and Eichhorn & Hoo Attorneys at Law.

The roof of the building caved in and caused extensive damage.  Most interior contents were saved by firefighters.

No other information about the incident is being released at this time.
