Las Vegas Man Arrested In Connection With House Explosion
An arrest has been made by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue investigators in connection with a fire and explosion that heavily damaged a house on the city’s east side Monday, December 5, 2011. No one was injured in connection with the incident. Jose R. Castillo, 48, was arrested and has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of first degree arson. Firefighters responded to a reported garage fire at 4121 Abrams Ave. at 11:50 a.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, flames were coming from the garage door of the two story wood frame/stucco house. As firefighters cut into the garage door to enter, they were stopped by a wall. They then entered the garage through a side door and were able to put the fire out in a couple of minutes. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters searched the house for victims. No one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters found signs of an explosion including structural damage to the back of the home and the garage door. Fire damage was confined to the garage, which had apparently been converted to a room. The rest of the house had blast damage. Damage is estimated at $150,000. Two adults and two children are being assisted by the American Red Cross because they are displaced. Author:Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Press Release
