Las Vegas Man Arrested in Connection With Hospital Emergency Room Fire
A Las Vegas man was arrested for arson late last night after a fire was started in the emergency room of Valley Hospital. The man suffered burns in the incident and was later arrested by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Investigators and charged with arson. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Medical personnel at Valley Hospital said the man was brought in late Tuesday afternoon to the emergency department for treatment. The man was waiting for treatment at approximately 6:15 p.m., when fire investigators say he set fire to his hospital bed using a lighter. He suffered burns to his upper body before hospital employees doused the fire. The man was then transported to University Medical Center for treatment of the burns. The fire caused approximately $700 damage in the emergency room. While he was being treated at UMC, fire investigators talked with staff and patients at Valley Hospital and then arrested the man. After he was treated at UMC he was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of Arson in the Third Degree. The incident remains under investigation.
