Liberty Mutual is working to make communities safer by offering fire departments across the country a chance to win one of ten $10,000 grants through their Fire Safety Pledge Program. The grants can be used to raise fire safety awareness in cities and towns across the United States.

The grants are available to any fire department in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Grants will be awarded in divisions based on community population as follows:

Small: 10,000 residents or less - 2 grants
Medium: 10,001 to 100,.000 residents - 6 grants
Large: 100,000 + residents - 2 grants

For each Fire Safety Pledge Quiz completed by community members, a point is credited to their local fire department. The department with the most points in their division will earn a grant. A minimum of 1 percent participation in the communities is required for the grant to be awarded in each division.

To participate:
Participants can check the Fire Safety Pledge Promotion Leaderboard to see which departments are leading in each division. They can also rally support in their community by using the Liberty Mutual Spread the Word feature to send a one time email to encourage others to take the ten question quiz.

One credit per fire department is permitted per household and email address.

The program will run until October 31, 2010 with winning departments announced in November.
