Little Rock Fire Department May Receive Life Saving Hazmat Equipment
The Little Rock Fire Department may become the first fire department in the State of Arkansas to receive new life-saving technology that will assist them with the detection of harmful chemicals in the air. It has been reported that the Little Rock City Council is set to vote today over waiving the competitive bidding process, in order for the department to purchase the equipment. The department already owns a unit that analyzes solids and liquids, however, not gases. The new equipment is able to pump in a sample of air for 10 minutes and then cross reference that sample with a database of 5,500 chemicals, providing a match extremely quickly. Little Rock Fire Department claims that they respond to approximately 300 Hazmat calls a year, therefore, this new piece of equipment would be quite useful.
