January 2012

After extensive research, Little Rock Fire Department (LRFD) placed an order for a new HP 100 ladder and two custom Cyclone II pumpers with E-ONE and Sunbelt Fire, the exclusive E-ONE dealer for Arkansas.

"We ordered our first E-ONE in 2009, an HP 100 ladder, and it has performed every task we've asked of it and then some," LRFD Chief Gregory Summers said. "Add to that the roll-over protection offered in E-ONE custom cabs combined with the excellent customer service provided by our local dealer, and it was a no-brainer for me."

While it was an easy choice for Chief Summers, he asked fleet liaison Chief Douglas Coney to assemble a committee to research other major manufacturers before choosing the apparatus which was the best fit for LRFD.

"We are not the ones riding on the trucks daily so while we know the products offered by E-ONE and the customer service provided by Sunbelt Fire are top-notch, we wanted a committee of department representatives to assist in our decision-making," Chief Coney said. "After exploring the other manufacturers, the committee felt the E-ONE products along with the service provided by Sunbelt were the best choice for Little Rock FD."

The three-truck order consists of the department's second HP 100 ladder and two of the department's first top-mount pumper configurations.

"We feel the top-mount design will allow our operators to be safely positioned on top of the truck where they are out of harm's way and have the best visibility of the scene," Chief Coney said. "These trucks are truly custom-built specifically for Little Rock."

LRFD apparatus committee members walked the E-ONE plant floor to garner ideas from customer units in process when designing their highly custom apparatus. The result was the addition of vista roofs on the pumpers for additional storage and internal compartments to safely house paperwork and binders.

"We're excited about E-ONE's products and the three new trucks on order, if we continue to receive the same product quality from E-ONE and outstanding service after the sale from Sunbelt, hopefully this will not be the last E-ONE purchase for Little Rock," Chief Summers said.
