Long Beach Budget Cuts Affect Fire Department

The City Council in Long Beach, California voted Tuesday to eliminate dozens of police positions and begin 'rolling brownouts' of fire stations beginning Oct. 1 as part of other cuts as they try to cut an $18.5 million budget deficit. Along with the station closures, 21 firefighter positions may be cut, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Rich Brandt, President of the Long Beach Firefighters Association told the council the brownouts and cuts will impact public safety.
