Canine Search Teams Receive Generous Donation
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted on November 3 to accept a donation of $60,000, with an additional annual recurring donation of $10,000, to the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue Canine Search Program from the Sean Robert Ryan Trust. The funding comes from an extremely private, local philanthropic person with a keen appreciation of man's best friend. Judy Marvin of the law firm handling the trust describes the donor as a fan of the Department's Urban Search and Rescue Canine Search Teams who wants to help make sure that our program stays local. Ryan also contributes to several local children's programs, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, says Marvin. The $50,000 portion of this donation is being used to offset the cost of a vehicle purchased to support routine and emergency Canine Search Team activities. The additional annual $10,000 will be used to ensure the operational effectiveness of the Search and Rescue Canine Program.
