Madison Fire Department responded to a house fire that occurred on September 6, 2010. Upon arrival, Madison fire personnel claimed there was no fire visible, but a light smoke presence on the exterior to the rear of the house. Crews also observed smoke coming from open windows at the rear of the home, upper patio screen door, and also visible on lower levels.

A preconnect line to the front door was set in place by Engine 5. As Engine 5 forced entry though the front door, the house was filled with smoke, but no fire was present on upper floors. Heat was detected at the home and was traced to a lower level with mechanicals.

To the side of the stairs, a small fire was present, which was extinguished quickly with a small amount of water by firefighters. According to a MFD news release, Engine 5 located a basement window and ventilated hydraulically out window. Glowing embers were also seen in a dryer and extinguished. Power was turned off at the electric service panel.

The fire was confined to the dryer and immediate area around the dryer. The burn pattern found on the dryer indicated the dryer door was open when the fire occurred, according to Madison FD.

The scene was turned over to a fire investigator.
