Marion County Fire District No. 1 firefighters responded to a reported truck fire at 8725 River Rd NE yesterday at 12:20 p.m.  While they were responding, 911 dispatchers received further information that the fire had spread from the truck to a nearby hay field.

Responding units arrived to find that winds and dry conditions were pushing the fire towards multiple homes, barns and a stable housing 10 horses, according to Battalion Chief Patrick J. Wineman, the Incident Commander from the Marion County Fire District.

4 alarms were called totaling 32 fire units and 73 firefighters and command personnel, according to a news release from the Marion County Fire District.  St. Paul Fire, Woodburn Fire, Keizer Fire, Salem Fire, and Turner Fire Districts provided mutual aid.  After two hours firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and saved all of the structures and horses.
