Michigan Hosts Electric Vehicle Safety Training

First responders in Southeast Michigan attended an electric vehicle training session Tuesday at the Oakland Community College CREST (Combined Regional Emergency Services Training ) Facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Representatives from Chevrolet, OnStar and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) provided safety training and information for the effective response to electric vehicle emergency situations, according to a news release from the NFPA.

Safety trainers and members of the fire service provided presentations and attendees viewed a video of an extrication demonstration featuring a Chevrolet Volt. A recently cut in half Volt was also available for hands on training.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
