The Monte Fire, in the Lakeside area of San Diego County, California, is now 75% contained and is expected to be fully contained by 6 p.m. tonight, according to Brian Harris, a spokesperson for the US Forest Service.

The wildfire started on August 21, 2010 at approxmiately 1:00 p.m. in the El Monte Park area and quickly spread due to light flashy fuels, according to Harris.  Initial assessment and attack began immediately by CAL Fire, the US Forest Service and the Heartland Fire Agency.  A unified command was established by the Bureau of Land Management and the Barona and Lakeside Fire Departments.  The Southern California Interagency Incident Management Team 1 assumed command on August 22, 2010 at 6 a.m.

The fire has has burned over 900 acres, and there are currently 257 personnel assigned to it.  No structures have been threatened and there have been two injuries.

Line construction will be completed today, according to Harris, and water drops will continue on hotspots within the fire perimeter.  The cause of the wildfire is under investigation.
