Mount Charleston Fire Burns Near Las Vegas
A wildfire started Thursday afternoon has charred 20 acres. According to the Bureau of Land Management, the fire was sparked by an illegal campfire on Mount Charleston, about 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. Four subdivisions and the Mount Charleston Hotel and lodge were evacuated Thursday, according to KLAS-TV. At one point, more than 200 firefighters were on scene, including 45 firefighters from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue who provided structure protection for three neighborhoods and the lodge, according to Tim Szymanski, a spokesman for the department. The fire is burning in rugged, steep terrain away from homes and is now 30 percent contained, according to the Las Vegas Record-Journal. Author:Barbara Brooks - Fire Department Network News
