Captain Matt Moore, a 23 year career firefighter, was memorialized when the Murrieta Fire Department Station #1 was dedicated in his name. He died on March 10, 2008 of a rare form of meningitis. It is believed that the disease in carried by an airborne amoeba. Captain Moore caught it while fighting wildland fires.

Chief Paul Christman of the Murrieta Fire Department says that Captain Moore loved his wife and family and lived his life to the fullest. "It was very traumatic to lose Matt for our rank and file folks and for our command staff....We're still carrying decals on the windows here a year and three months later. So there's a point in time where we need to transition back to the living, and I believe this is a way where we can memorialize Matt and get on with the business that we have at hand."

Captain Matt Moore was well loved and held high standards for the men in his department. "He expected a lot from people because he gave a lot himself," says Captain Mike Ramos. Matt Corelli adds, "He was a moral leader, a character leader and he certainly was just one of those leaders that was able to handle all the tough situations, so you had to draw a lot from his experience."

Captain Moore's wife Sherry, brother Captain Mark Moore, and mother Carol all attended the dedication and expressed their gratitude for Matt's colleagues for holding the memorial service.
