The National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Firewise® Communities Program will host a free webinar on Firewise principles and wildfire safety at 1 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Michele Steinberg, manager of the Firewise program, will present.

With the 2011 wildfire season on its way to becoming one of the worst on record, and the likelihood that more damaging fires will occur in the months ahead, residents, civic leaders, planners, developers, firefighters and others who live in the wildland-urban interface (WUI) have an ongoing need for information and resources that support efforts to reduce a community's risk of a wildfire threat. This online presentation will feature an overview of the Firewise program, which shows how neighbors, working together, can prepare their homes and community before a fire ever starts.

Throughout the webinar, participants will learn how wildfires behave and homes ignite, and how simple, inexpensive steps, like clearing leaves and other debris from gutters, eaves, porches and decks, can actually reduce fuel for fire. Sample case studies and Firewise success stories will be highlighted, in addition to an introduction about how to become a Firewise Communities/USA® Recognized site.

Visit NFPA's Firewise Communities Program website for more information and to register. Audience members who have questions to share during the webinar are encouraged to submit them by November 7th to Tiana Allen . Live Tweet the webinar with #Firewise or submit your question to @Firewise.
