National Night Out Festivities in Portland Begin at Kickoff Party & Award Ceremony
Firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue's Engine 4 and Truck 4 were in attendance to help celebrate the beginning of National Night Out (NNO) on July 26, 2011 at an annual awards ceremony for local public safety volunteers.

The Crime Prevention Program of the Office of Neighborhood Involvement organized the event that was held outside of City Hall on 4th Avenue.

Activities included short speeches by Commissioners Amanda Fritz and Dan Saltzman, and Fire Chief John Klum and awards presented to local individuals, teams, schools, and businesses responsible for successful public safety endeavors in our community.

NNO is an enormous annual celebration here in Portland, with approximately 20,000 people attending 150 parties at venues large and small.  The focus of NNO events is to build community, strengthening the police-community relationship, and reducing crime and drugs in neighborhoods by encouraging neighbors to get to know one another.

National Night Out always happens the first Tuesday of August.  The official date of National Night Out is August 2nd this year.  To find a NNO Party in your neighborhood or for further information on organizing a NNO party, visit the City of Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement's website at http://www.portlandonline.com/oni/.
