New Mexico Wildfire Destroys 15 Homes
March 8, 2011 A wildfire driven by wind in Silver City, New Mexico destroyed up to 15 homes yesterday and has eased. New Mexico firefighters have built containment lines as well. The wildfire had burned approximately 1,800 acres by this morning. Due to intense winds, firefighters were prevented from calling in water-dropping helicopters to assist. It has been reported that FEMA has approved a grant that will cover 75 percent of firefighting costs. Author:Renee Marquart - Fire Department Network News
