New Technology Could Predict Fire Spread

A new technology that feeds data taken from sensors in burning buildings to computer models could help first responders by predicting how a fire will spread. Sensor Assisted Fire Fighting was developed by researchers at the University of Edinburgh and partially funded by the UK Technology Strategy Board and the European Union.

The sensors could be incorporated into smoke alarm, room temperature sensors and closed circuit television cameras.
