New Zealand Rotary Club Thanks California Task Force 2
New Zealand artist John Brasell's peaceful watercolor scene of a couple rowing down a quiet country river is a fitting gift of thanks to California Task Force 2, following their rescue mission earlier this year to Christchurch, when a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the city of 40,000. Bearing this beautiful gift, along with a letter of thanks from the Rotary Club of Bishopdale Burnside in Christchurch, was Air New Zealand representative Roger Poulton, who lives in the Los Angeles area. Poulton attended last week's Executive Team meeting for a brief presentation to Fire Chief Daryl Osby on behalf of the Rotary Club.

They wrote: "The painting of 'Christchurch As We Would Prefer to Remember It,' the citation to the Los Angeles County Fire Department USAR Team, and the book, Earthquake, published by the Christchurch Press, are gifts of appreciation from the Rotary Club of Bishopdale-Burnside, Christchurch, New Zealand. These gifts symbolize the friendship that exists between the United States of America and New Zealand, and are given in appreciation of the assistance rendered to the City of Christchurch following the devastating earthquake of February 22, 2011."

Following the presentation in the Executive Conference, Poulton was invited to pose with the Executive Team in front of Klinger Center with Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 103. Brasell is quite an accomplished artist, and has painted New Zealand landscapes for many years. He has lived in Christchurch for the past 35 years but his work has taken him all around the world.
