North Las Vegas Fire Department Responds to Arson Fire
The City of North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to a fire in a single story multi-family dwelling Tuesday morning. Crews arrived in the 2400 block of Wester Street at 9:35 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from one apartment, Cedric Williams, a spokesman for the department said in a news release. Firefighters with North Las Vegas, Clark County and City of Las Vegas Fire Departments made entry into the unit to find smoke approximately two inches above the floor and flames coming from a rear bedroom, according to Williams. It took 24 firefighters five minutes to extinguish the main fire and approximately 30 minutes to completely contain it. There were no injuries reported to firefighters or bystanders but the occupant of the apartment did sustain minor burns and was transported to North Vista Hospital, according to Williams. Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was intentional and the occupant of the apartment was arrested for causing the fire. According to Williams, estimates of damage are undetermined. The fire caused severe fire, smoke and water damage to the apartment involved but there was no damage to the adjacent apartments or extension into the attic.
