The Orange County Fire Authority, OCFA, placed bounties on the heads of their peers in an effort to raise money for one of their employees, Katherine Litchfield, who is battling a rare form of cancer. If the bounty was paid, the employees stepped up to a chair and had their heads shaved. "We are trying to show a little bit of courage ourselves by shaving our heads in support of Katherine, who has magnificent courage; and we have to really try and support her through a really difficult time," says Chief Keith Richter of the OCFA. In case anyone tried to skip out on their bounty, an appointed sheriff was there to make sure they found their way to a chair. Michael Blumberg was one of several OCFA employees who dyed their hair pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, before having it shaved off. "I got myself buzzed. I've never done this before. But, you know what, it seemed like such a worthy cause to help somebody out who just helped me so much," Blumberg says. The youngest person to have their head shaved was Jace Rodriguez, who was nearly killed in a fire when he was a child. "Just like when I was sick, people helped me," he says. Katherine Litchfield is now down to two experimental treatments that she says will not be paid for because they are experimental. Food, a raffle, and an auction were also organized to help raise money for Katherine's treatments.
