Oshkosh and Pierce Vehicles on Display at International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference
Oshkosh Corporation is featuring vehicles from three of its brands - Pierce Manufacturing, Oshkosh Defense and Frontline Communications - at the 117th Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference and Exposition that opened October 23rd at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The vehicles on display in booth #2257 include an Oshkosh® Tactical Protector Vehicle (TPV), a Pierce® Heavy-Duty Tactical Vehicle and a Frontline™ EOD K/9 vehicle.

"Oshkosh builds the industry's most comprehensive lineup of custom law enforcement vehicles including armored tactical vehicles, mobile crime lab vehicles, versatile bomb response and canine units, and sophisticated incident command vehicles," said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency.  "Oshkosh has a proud history of serving defense, law enforcement and homeland security markets. We offer a single source solution, sharing advanced technologies among all of the Oshkosh brands to help law enforcement and homeland security teams gain control over every situation."

Johnson added, "As the demands faced by law enforcement professionals continue to grow more challenging and dangerous, the vehicles and equipment used must keep pace ensuring optimal performance and safety for these highly specialized response teams."

On display at the Oshkosh booth are the following vehicles:

Oshkosh Tactical Protector Vehicle (TPV)

The Oshkosh TPV is a game-changing, high-mobility tactical vehicle engineered to meet the challenges faced by tactical officers responding to high-risk situations in both urban and rural environments. The TPV's incredible performance is made possible through its Oshkosh-engineered high-mobility chassis, military-grade armor protection system, configurable exterior and interior arrangements and compact size. The vehicle is based on a heavy-duty Ford F-550 chassis shortened to achieve a highly maneuverable 116-inch wheelbase. The TPV features four-wheel drive, a 325-hp engine, and a top speed of 75 mph.  Its suspension system has been completely redesigned for maximum compliance and control under the most challenging on-and off-road conditions.

The TPV on display features complete NIJ Level IV protection, nine gunports, electrically deployed skip plates, a rotating gunner protection unit, FLIR camera and military spec run-flat tires.

A second Oshkosh TPV vehicle will be on hand for comprehensive "ride and drive" demonstrations near the convention center. Arrangements for the "ride and drive" can be made at the booth.

Pierce Tactical Response Vehicle

The Pierce Tactical Response Vehicle (on display courtesy of Northern Illinois Police Alarm System) is built on a Velocity® custom chassis with a non walk-in aluminum body.  The vehicle features a 515 hp engine, GVW rating of 66,800 lbs., seating for four officers, a raised roof for maximum interior space, TAK-4® independent front suspension and an air ride rear suspension for a smoother ride and improved vehicle control. With a 274.5-inch wheelbase and wide array of compartments, the unit is custom engineered to provide the NIPAS Emergency Services Team (EST) with the ability transport and maintain the equipment required to effectively and efficiently respond to a wide variety of incidents and requests for service.

The vehicle also features a command area and desk inside the cab, diesel generator, three (3) explosion-proof Type III compartments installed on floor-mounted trays, weapons storage vault, telescoping LED light tower and LED strip lighting throughout. With its increased organization and improved communications systems, the vehicle will also enhance the team's command and control capabilities while on scene.

Frontline EOD/K-9 Vehicle

The Frontline Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD)/K-9 unit is a multi-purpose, rapid deployment vehicle that enables bomb response teams to handle a myriad of hazardous devices. The vehicle features a large kennel with a dedicated air conditioning unit, white roof to deflect heat, and a temperature alarm system to protect explosive ordnance dogs. The vehicle also features a custom aluminum body, slide out equipment trays, ordnance compartments, robot compartment and ramp, and a rear operations workstation for command communications and control of a digital satellite system. The vehicle is certified air transportable by the USAF for C-5, C-17 and C-130 aircraft.
