Owens Peak Complex Fire Burns in California
Two fires that began burning in mountains west of Ridgecrest, California last week have become the Owens Peak Complex Fire and are under the command of the South Central Sierra Interagency Incident Management Team (IMT). According to the Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) crews continue to make progress on the fire that is burning on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management, California Desert District. The Sand 2 Fire was started by lightning on Friday and has burned approximately 1,255 acres and is 100% contained, according to the KCFD. The Indian Fire began on Saturday and has burned approximately 2,812 acres and is 80% contained, according to KCFD. Two injuries have occurred as a result of this fire. The cause is under investigation. More than 400 firefighters and 5 helicopters worked throughout the day Tuesday to extinguish hot spots and reinforce containment lines.
