Key Witness in Oyler Arson Murder Trial Receives Reward
An unidentified witness in the 2009 arson-murder trial of Rayond Lee Oyler has been given a $50,000 reward for providing information and testimony in the case. In a February 8, 2011 meeting, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion to award the witness half of a $100,000 reward that was offered during the October 26, 2006 wildfire that killed five U.S. Forest Service firefighters and destroyed 39 homes in Southern California. Subsequently, Oyler was arrested, charged and convicted of arson and murder and was sentenced to death. Prosecutors credit the witness' testimony as a key part of Oyler's conviction. The witness filed the claim for the reward after his 2009 testimony in Oyler's trial. Riverside County Officials are withholding the witness' identity for safety reasons.
