Suffolk Fire & Rescue and the Suffolk Police Department were on the scene at the Suffolk Executive Airport as they waited for a twin engine plane to make an emergency landing.

The call was received at approximately 11:35 a.m. on January 26th, 2012, advising that there was a twin engine 6-seater airplane experiencing issues with its landing gear. After circling the airport several times to burn off fuel, the pilot successfully brought the plane down at approximately 12:23 p.m.

The plane had left the Suffolk Executive Airport at approximately 9:45 a.m. on a business trip to Cambridge, Maryland, a trip which normally takes an hour. Piloted by George McClellan of McClellan Aviation Services, it was reported that he experienced problems with his nose landing gear and aborted his initial attempt to land in Cambridge, returning his plane to Suffolk.

The only passenger in the plane, Jesse Johnson, Jr., a Suffolk Attorney and husband of Suffolk Mayor Linda Johnson, advised "George did a great job landing the plane". Neither the pilot nor Mr. Johnson were injured.

The crash is under investigation by the Virginia State Police, who handle all downed aircraft incidents.
