Excellent progress has been made containing the Post Fire near Lebec, California, and Incident Commanders predict full containment by this 6:00 this evening.

The wildfire, which began in the Los Padres National Forest in Kern County, California on August 24, 2010, burned 1,312 acres, according to a Kern County Fire Department news release.  Approximately 625 first responders and support personnel battled this blaze.  In addition to the manpower, 15 engines, 36 dozers, 2 water tenders and 9 helicopters were used to fight this fire.

The incident has been managed by the unified command of the California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 and the Kern County Fire Department.  Members of the Bureau of Land Management, the California Highway Patrol, and the Kern County Sheriff have also provided important assistance.

According to the Kern County Fire Department, today crews are working deep into the interior of the fire, mopping up hotspots 500 feet within the fireline.  Burned Area Rehabilitation assessment work also began today to determine long term restoration needs in the area.

Because of the swift work of firefighters and support personnel, no structures have been destroyed and no one has been injured.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
