Post Fire Remains Quiet
The Post Fire burning in the Los Padres National Forest in Kern County, California remained quiet overnight, allowing crews to extinguish hot spots and secure the fireline. The fire that began on Tuesday afternoon has blackened approximately 1,312 acres and is 76 percent contained, according to a news release from the Kern County Fire Department (KCFD). A total of 871 fire personnel continue to work under unified command of California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 and the KCFD. Thursday, with the success of containment efforts, some personnel and equipment were demobilized. Currently there are 52 engines, nine water tenders, two dozers, 30 hand crews and six helicopters assigned to the fire, according to KCFD. Thursday, firefighters completed a successful burning operation on the northwest perimeter of the fire to reduce pockets of unburned fuels inside the fireline. Today, crews will continue to secure the fire line and extinguish hot spots up to 300 feet inside the fire, supported by aircraft as needed, according to KCFD. Repair of damage caused by suppression activity has been on-going and is expected to be completed by Friday evening. There have been no injuries reported, no structures have been lost of damaged and there are no evacuation orders in effect. Representatives of the Los Padres National Forest and members of the Incident Command Team will hold a community meeting Friday night at 6:30 at the Lebec Community Church to provide a fire update and answer questions regarding the management of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Author:Barbara Brooks - Fire Department Network News
