Public Open House Scheduled for the Santa Ana Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project

A public open house for the proposed Santa Ana Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project has been scheduled for September 30, from 5-7pm, at the Hootman Senior Center, 2929 Running Springs School Road in Running Springs.

The Front Country Ranger District will host this public open house as part of the environmental analysis for the proposed Santa Ana Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project focused on community protection, healthy forest, and fuels reductions.

Forest Service staff will be available to discuss the project and the process and to answer questions. All interested persons, state and local governments, and tribal governments are encouraged to participate at this time and throughout the public scoping period.

This project analysis will be conducted under the Healthy Forests Restoration Act (HFRA) authority and per the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
