How to protect property in the wildland-urban interface is often a problem for homeowners who choose to live in those areas. A lack of water either before or during a wildfire can also be a concern.

Red Rock Wildland Fire Systems has several possible solutions for proactive homeowners, businesses, communities, and even fire departments to have water at their disposal. The first option is a custom installed fire protection system that starts with a 3,000 gallon underground fiberglass tank.

As Jessie Fisher, Marketing and Sales Director for Red Rock explains, "One reason why we have the tank is based on input we've gotten from fire professionals who said they wanted a completely untouched water source that they know was reliable."

The tank refills automatically. As long as water is available, it will always be full. It has its own generator and a submersible pump. Foam and gel fire retardant systems can also be worked into the system.

Above ground is a stand alone interface with 100 feet of 1 ½ inch canvas fire hose with a special performance foaming nozzle. All this is covered with a decorative rock cover.

Fire departments in the area are made aware of the system and what to look for. All the fittings are the same in case they ever have to use the system. "You do want the fire department to know where it is in case, A: they actually have to use it to fight a fire on your home or property close by. And, B: it's extra resources for them," Fisher said. 

The system is customized and can accommodate up to eight cannons that can be placed strategically around the property either in decorative columns or on the roof of the structure.

The Red Rock system can be activated either manually, remotely by cell phone, satellite, or their internet site. Online, a customer can also check their system, making sure it is operational.

The other water option offered by Red Rock Wildland Fire Systems are two different portable fire prevention systems. One is a 1,000 gallon trailer unit that can be easily towed.

"The whole trailer was designed because of the local Fire Marshal here who told us that he wanted to be able to hook up to something and go," Fisher explained. "We have sold quite a few to individual subdivisions. A group of people coming together who want one central fire protection system that can be used for a first response."

The other option is a tank that can be mounted in the back of a truck."We offer a 500 gallon truck mount system that can be easily placed, two man pickup, right in the back of a 1-ton truck and be able to be taken anywhere that you can get the truck in," Fisher said.
