Reno Firefighters Attack Blaze Caused by Welding

Reno Fire Department investigators advise today's fire on a property in Sun Valley was caused by welding being done in the yard on July 19, 2011.

At 11:25 a.m., Reno firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire in the backyard of a residence on Flora Way. Due to winds the brush fire quickly began to spread to two double-wide mobile homes on the property.

Crews were able to contain the fire, keeping it from causing extensive damage to the homes. The fire did cause minimal damage by scorching the siding and the insulation. Firefighters from Engine 15 stayed on scene after the fire to conduct extensive mop-up operations.

"Crews over came a difficult tactical situation by having to maneuver around large amounts of debris and tripping hazards to extinguish the fire," advised Battalion Chief Tim Spencer.

The Reno Fire Department responded to the fire with four structure engines, one ladder truck, one safety officer, one fire investigator, the fire department chaplain, and one battalion chiefs. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office and REMSA responded to the incident to provide support services. NV Energy was also on scene helping fire crews by shutting off gas and electric services.
