Celebrating the Return of Personnel and Equipment to Portland's Fire Station 1
Yesterday, citizens helped Portland Fire & Rescue celebrate the return of personnel and equipment to Fire Station 1 at an Open House. The public and media toured the station and administrative offices, located at 55 SW Ash Street. The celebration began at 11:30 a.m. with opening remarks from Mayor Sam Adams, Fire Commissioner Randy Leonard, Fire Chief John Klum, and Station Captain Dan Buckner. In traditional firefighter fashion, Commissioner Randy Leonard used an axe to cut the ceremonial ribbon. Lee's Association Dragon & Lion Dance Team performed and the Fireboat David Campbell provided a water display. Firefighters demonstrated some of the specialty team expertise housed at Station 1 including high-angle rope rescue techniques and dive team equipment. Firefighters also discussed the history of Station 1 and poster displays helped explain and illustrate how taxpayer money, funded through a General Obligation bond, has ensured that fire stations throughout the City have been seismically upgraded. The Red Cross also provided safety information and had 72-hour emergency kits available for purchase. Republished with permission of Portland Fire & Rescue. View original article here.
