Riverside County Brushfire Scorches Over 40 Acres

Firefighters with CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire battled a brush fire Wednesday. The fire started around 11:39 a.m. near Indiana Avenue and Lakepointe Drive in the Home Gardens area, Melody Hendrickson, a spokeswoman for the department said in a news release.

With temperatures in the middle 70's and wind gusts to 10 mph, the fire grew to approximately  40 to 50 acres before crews could call 85 percent containment. One helicopter, a bulldozer, three water tenders, 21 engines and 147 firefighters were on scene. CAL FIRE was assisted by Corona Fire Department, Riverside City Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service/Cleveland National Forest.
