Rotary Saw Starts Rubidoux Fire

Someone using a rotary saw is blamed for starting a fire that grew to 45 acres in Rubidoux, California Sunday afternoon. The fire began around 12:20 p.m. near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Canal Street on a hot day with high winds and low humidity, Jody Hagemann, a spokeswoman for CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department said in an news release.

It took 160 firefighters approximately an hour and 25 minutes to contain the fire. A total of 22 engines, two water tenders and two bulldozers were on scene. According to Hagemann, the individual that started the fire was cited by CAL FIRE investigators and will be held responsible for fire suppression costs.

CAL FIRE/San Bernardino, March Air Reserve Base and Riverside City firefighters assisted Riverside County Fire Department with the fire.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires.
