Three thousand people attended the 2009 San Bernardino Sheriff's Department Mud Run, an event which raises money for fire and police charities, including the Loma Linda University, Children's Hospital and the Fire Fighters Quest for Burn Survivors. "We're thinking that it'll raise between 10 and 20 thousand dollars for the Children's Hospital," Tiffany Hoekstra of Loma Linda Univeristy, Children's Hospital says. This year's Mud Run was also used as a memorial for Captain Tedmund Hall and Fire Specialist Arnaldo Quinones, two Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters who died fighting the Station Fire. Their truck fell 800 feet off a mountainside, while they searched for an escape route for their team. Donations from the event were made in their names. The 5K and 10K Mud Runs offered a difficult course for runners. It included mud pits, hill climbs, and low crawl obstacles. The San Bernardino County Fire Department kept runners hosed down during the event. Battalion Chief Barry Fox of San Bernardino County Fire Department says, "They sure seem to enjoy it. I mean, we had a bunch of kids out here and every one of them came pointing at us saying, 'Spray us. Spray us.'" The winner of the men's run was Jose Luna and Julie Russell took first during the women's run. Author:Crystal Chessher - Video, Katelyn Sullivan - Text
