San Bruno Explosion Causes Large Fire
San Bruno, California At approximately 6:15 this evening a huge explosion, described by witnesses as a massive fire ball, rocked the hills of San Bruno, California. Initially thought to be an airplane crash because of the close proximity of the fire to the San Francisco Airport, the fire is now reported to be related to a broken natural gas pipeline. At least seven homes in the area of Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno Avenue have been burned. Firefighters from San Bruno and surrounding communities are battling the four-alarm fire, and an air tanker has made drops of fire retardant. The wind is causing the fire to spread, and evacuations are currently underway. South San Francisco's Kaiser Hospital is reporting that six patients have been treated for burn injuries, with additional patients continuing to arrive.
