San Bruno Explosion Kills Four
At 6:24 p.m. Thursday night, a natural gas line ruptured in San Bruno, California. The fire burned 15 acres and is now 75 percent contained. In that area burned, 38 structures were destroyed and seven structures were damaged. Four people have been killed by the fire and a total of 52 people have been injured. Three people have suffered third-degree burns and there have been four firefighters hospitalized for unknown injuries. Last night, the city proclaimed a local emergency. Soon after, Lt. Governor Able Maldonado, acting for Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger, who is in Asia, declared a state of emergency allowing federal money from FEMA to help pay for the firefight. According to Cal EMA, their State Operations Center (SOC) in Sacramento and their Coastal Region Emergency Operations Center (REOC) were activated to assist San Mateo County EOC. There were 67 fire apparatus on scene which included 21 local engines, 18 engines from CAL FIRE and 20 mutual aid engines from Cal EMA. There were many water tenders and dozers. In the air, four air tankers dropped retardant and one helicopter assisted in the operation. Currently there are 12 canines on site to help with recovery efforts and 30 more engines are heading to the scene to assist. Watch this Fox News video.
