Santa Barbara Firefighters Save Elderly Man's Home
GOLETA, California November 8, 2010 At 12:24 pm, Santa Barbara County Fire Department(SBC FD) responded to a structure fire, located at 7368 Hollister #17 in Goleta. SBC FD responded three engines, a ladder truck and a battalion chief to the scene.Firefighters arrived on scene and found light smoke coming from the single wide mobile home. Firefighters were alerted to the fire by a home care worker that was checking on the 84 year old male homeowner. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and confined it to a wall in the kitchen. The home had no working smoke detector at the time the fire occurred. SBC FD cannot emphasize enough the importance of at least one working smoke detector in your home. The fire may have been tragic had the fire gone unnoticed and started at night when the homeowner was asleep. The firefighters replaced the battery in the smoke detector and made sure it was functioning properly prior to leaving the scene. The cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction.
