Santa Barbara Firefighters Respond to Intentionally Set Vehicle Blaze

At 4:02 am, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBC FD) responded four engines and a battalion chief to a reported residential structure fire located at in the 5800 block of Hollister Avenue in Goleta. Firefighters arrived on scene and found a vehicle on fire within close proximity to an apartment building. The apartment building was temporarily evacuated.

Firefighters found the interior of the vehicle completely engulfed in fire. The fire was suppressed with no injuries or property loss other than the vehicle involved. The vehicle appears to have been stolen from a residence, abandoned and set ablaze at a private parking lot. The fire was investigated by SBC FD.

As a result of the investigation, the cause of the vehicle fire that occurred at 5840 Hollister Avenue was most likely arson. Sheriff and SBC FD investigators are still working to find suspects and additional leads in the theft and arson fire.
