Santa Cruz Firefighters Respond to Tree Fire in Lighthouse Field
Santa Cruz Fire department responded to a tree on fire in Lighthouse field off West cliff Drive on May 31, 2011. Upon arrival crews found a small fire in the top of a very old cypress tree approximately 30 feet up. Crews placed a ladder on the inside of the tree and were able to bring a hose line up to the top to extinguish it. The fire was located at the very top of the tree where kids had climbed and built a sitting area. Cause of the fire was most likely smoking material. No injuries were reported.
