Second Arson Fire in Chesapeake Results in Arrest of Norfolk Man
On Monday, 11/28/2011, the Chesapeake Fire Marshal's Office received a call of an attempted arson in the 3000 block of Parkside Drive in Chesapeake, Virginia. Deputy Fire Marshal's arrived on scene shortly after 9 PM last night and found a two story, eight unit apartment building with moderate charing to the outside of the structure. An occupant of a first floor unit noticed the flames outside her kitchen window and quickly evacuated the apartment with her children. When she went around back of the building, the fire had been extinguished and 911 was called. The fire was contained to the exterior of the building and no one was displaced or injured as a result of the fire. During the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire, Deputy Fire Marshal's determined the fire was intentionally set as a result of a domestic dispute. Further investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office lead to the arrest of Lorenzo L. Brunson, 27, of Norfolk, Virginia, earlier this afternoon. Mr. Brunson is being charged with one felony count of burning/destroying an occupied dwelling house, which is chargeable under Virginia Code § 18.2-77. If convicted, a crime punishable by imprisonment for life or for any period not less than five years, and a fine not more than $100,000. Author:Chesapeake Fire Department Press Release
