A brush fire that began in the Porter Ranch area of Southern California Monday afternoon grew to 15 acres.

"This topography-driven wildfire is under control. Approximately 100 Los Angeles firefighters were actively engaged in a well-coordinated ground and air assault on the flames," Erik Scott, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said in a news release.

When crews arrived at the initial address given for the fire, the 19100 block of Sessnon Blvd, the fire was at 1/2 acre. According to Scott, it burned grass and light brush in steep terrain.

Crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) along with four helicopters assisted in the fight. According to Scott, 100 percent containment of the fire was reached in about an hour.

LAFD encourages residents to maintain a minimum 200 foot brush clearance from any structure and to remove flammable items from around homes.

There were no reports of injuries, structures threatened or burned in the fire. ##The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
