Chesapeake Fire Department crews were dispatched to the 700 block of River Strand, in the Riverwalk section of the City, just past 9:30 PM on February 13th, 2012.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found a 2-story residential structure with smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.  Neighbors on scene reported that the occupants may still be inside and fire crews launched multiple companies to search the large home.

The structure was found clear of any occupants, however seven large dogs were found deceased inside.  Crews quickly extinguished the fire, which originated in the kitchen area, and ventilated the structure of smoke and hot gases.

Two adult residents, who normally live in the home, were not home during the fire and are now staying with family members.  The home owners are working with their insurance company to secure and repair the structure.

Deputy Fire Marshals are back at the scene this morning investigating the cause of the fire.
