Shooting Causes Fire Near Banning
On June 18, 2011 at 3:15 p.m., CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to a wildland fire on Old Banning-Idyllwild Road near Longhorn Road, south of Banning. Quick response and fire suppression efforts contained the fire to eight acres. The incident was handled by 10 engines (CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, USFS), 1 helicopter, 1 air attack, 2 air tankers, 2 bulldozers, 4 fire crews, 2 water tenders and 3 Fire Officers. CAL FIRE Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be shooting. 9-1-1 callers initially reporting the fire described a newer model blue Toyota Tacoma pick-up with tinted windows leaving the fire scene. Anyone with information regarding person or persons shooting in the area of the fire is urged to contact the Riverside County Fire Department Arson Hotline at (800) 633-2836.
