Shreveport Fire Department Responds to 5 Fires

At 2:10 p.m. on December 23, 2011, Shreveport Firefighters responded to a reported house fire at 171 India in southeast Shreveport. Fire crews arrived on scene at 2:13 p.m. to find a heavy smoke coming from a single-story, wood-framed home. It took 6 units20 firefighters20 minutes to bring this fire under control.

The occupants were home and escaped without injury to call 9-1-1. Fire officials determined unattended cooking was the cause of this fire that damaged approximately 20 percent of the home.

As fire crews from Engine 3, 19 and 20 arrived on scene at the house on India, Engine 1,4 and 8 were called to a house fire at a duplex in the 2700 block of Ashton Street in the Allendale community. Heavy smoke was billowing from the roof while thick flames exploded from the rear of the home when fire crews arrived.

Neighbors told firefighters that someone was inside, but after a thorough search, firefighters found both residences empty. The family pet escaped after firefighters forced entry through the front door.

It took firefighters 40 minutes to bring this fire under control. The origin and cause of this fire is under investigation.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
