Shreveport Firefighters Battle Two House Fires within One Hour

A lightning strike is the likely cause of a house fire in Burgundy Ridge subdivision in southwest Shreveport. At 8:22 p.m. on November 8, 2011, Shreveport firefighters were dispatched to the 2000 block of Briar Hollow Drive to the report of flames coming from a roof.

Fire crews arrived on scene at 8:29 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames extending 10 feet above the roof. It took 6 units18 firefighters16 minutes to get this fire under control. There were no reported injuries. At 8:54 p.m., firefighters responded to a second reported fire in the 300 block of Rutherford Street in the Highland community.

Engine 7 arrived on scene at 8:58 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames extending above the roof as well as the west exterior side of the home. It took 9 units28 firefightersnearly one hour to control the blaze that damaged more than 50 percent of the home.

Fire investigators have determined the fire originated on the stovetop but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. The family of five escaped without injury but the home has been deemed unlivable.
