Sisters Elementary School Evacuation Center Opened As Result Of Oregon Wildfire

The evacuation shelter opened Monday night as a result of the Rooster Rock wildfire remained open the next day and possibly that night. The shelter was located at Sisters Elementary School, 611 E. Cascade, and operated by the Oregon Mountain River Chapter of the American Red Cross.

While there were no overnight guests, local residents stopped by the shelter for snacks, information and conversation. The decision to remain in operation was due to the nature of the fire and the high temperatures expected.

Thanks to a partnership with the Pet Emergency Team, the Red Cross shelter had portable kennels on-site to house small animals. Those with livestock concerns should call the Pet Emergency Team at 541-610-6628.
