Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund and Jim Beam Partner With BevMo!

Jim Beam and the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California recently joined forces with BevMo!, a California wine and spirits retailer, to raise money for firefighters in need.  Marking their 100th store opening in Torrance, California, BevMo! invited Beam Global and the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund to have a display at their grand opening event where patrons could purchase their charity cookbook, "The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California Firehouse Cookbook and What Inspires Our Local Heroes."

History and Mission of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund

The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund is a national organization started by the family of fallen FDNY firefighter, Terry Farrell, who perished on September 11, 2001.  The group's mission is to raise funds to provide the families of fallen or injured firefighters with financial assistance and to give underfunded volunteer fire departments the equipment that they need.  According to Craig Tebbe, a member of the California Chapter and an Escondido Firefighter and Paramedic, the group also has a scholarship fund that family members of active and retired firefighters in need of financial aid can apply for.

The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund is headquarter in New York City and chaired by Terry Farrell's brother, Brian Farrell.  They have provided much needed donations to families and fire departments across the United States.  The fund has grown exponentially since its inception in 2002, and has begun to form chapters in various states to help with regional needs, one of them being California.

California Chapter of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund

Escondido Firefighter and member of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California's Board of Directors Mike O'Connor, explained why he and his fellow firefighters became involved with the organization, saying, "I've been a firefighter for 31 years, and my heart is in it because it helps the cause of firefighters.  We do a lot in the communities with other services and this is a way for firefighters to help firefighters in times of need."

O'Connor and members of the California chapter have had a successful year in fundraising, and the money they collect helps firefighters in states throughout the Western portion of the United States.  According to Craig Tebbe, the group was recently able to provide assistance to a family of a fallen firefighter in Arizona.

Partnership with Beam Global

Beam Global has been an avid supporter of the Terry Farrell Fund, sponsoring a national campaign whereby they released a specially labeled bottle of bourbon, giving a portion of the sales to the Terry Farrell Fund.  This year they built on that commitment by working with the California Chapter to put together the Firehouse Cookbook, which has been a huge success.  Sheri Haupt, a Marketing Manager with Beam Global, says of the partnership, "This is the first year that the Terry Farrell Foundation and Jim Beam partnership has happened in the California market.  Its been very successful so far both in selling product as well as helping them raise money."

Four thousand copies of the cookbook were printed, with 500 of them being purchased by BevMo! for sale in their stores.  Jim Beam committed to giving the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund $25,000 regardless of whether all of the copies were sold; however, the cookbook has been a huge hit among firefighters and the general public, and copies are sure to sell out.

The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California Firehouse Cookbook

The cookbook contains recipes submitted by firefighters from across the country, along with true stories about firehouse life.  Explaining why the recipes in the book are excellent for both firefighters and people on the go, Mike O'Connor says, "The thing about these recipes is they're good.  They are all quick and easy, and in the firehouse those are really the kinds of recipes we want because anytime we can get interrupted.  "As O'Connor tells everyone who learns about the Firehouse Cookbook, the most important reason for buying one is that it helps firefighters and fire departments in need.

Some of the delicious creations in the charity cookbook include "Fast Truck Chicken", "Keith Coffey's Mexican Cornbread", "Spicy Firehouse Chili", "Caesar Salad", and "Vito's Sausage and Peppers".  The Firehouse Cookbook is $9.99 and can be purchased online at www.terryfarrellfundca.org.
